Did you make a New Year's Resolution to lose weight?
Have you newly signed up at a gym to workout? Have you recently bought new Diet books? If you are one of the many who decided at the start of the new year to lose weight, you are not alone. Statistics show that over 45% of people make a New Year's Resolution to lose weight. They get motivated, decide to join a gym, buy dieting books and really want to lose the weight this time. Statistics also show that only 12% of people are able to stick with their goal and make progress with their weight loss. Below are the most common reasons for falling off the wagon after making weight loss your goal. 1. Motivation wears off. Simply put, you found motivation and changed your mindset to want to be healthy and fit and finally lose the weight; but keeping yourself motivated is difficult to maintain. 2. Weight loss is hard. Beginning to lose weight means changing habits, changing diet and teaching yourself to live a different lifestyle each day. As time goes on, many fall back into their old comfortable habits. 3. Getting stuck. With weight loss comes many struggles such as losing weight very fast in the beginning and then seeing a slowing down process, or "getting stuck." You continue to stay on track with your diet and are still working out, but for weeks you still don't seem to make the scale move. As a Life & Health Coach, many of my clients are on a weight loss program and benefit from coaching sessions. Weight loss is the number one area of health coaching that I help my clients with. Coaching sessions with a health coach is a problem-solver. When you have problems staying motivated, staying on track and need to get through the "getting stuck" parts, having a health coach in your corner can push you to reach your target goals every time. Have you looked at different Life Coaching sites or apps and had thoughts about having sessions with a Life Coach, but you haven’t made the call? How about starting a weight loss program?
Do you know that your body and mind need scheduled maintenance? I’ll bet you didn’t think of it that way. If we can think of your entire being as being similar to a car that you drive, you’ll see that there are many common elements to keeping the car in great condition. Cars need maintenance while you use them and so does your body and mind, just like a car. Your car needs many things. It needs a regular oil change and to clean the oil and air filters so as not to get clogged up so that it will barely run. If you don’t do these regular maintenance tasks on your car, before you know it your car could have damage that will wind up costing you more expensive repairs in order to get it back in good running shape. Your car also needs tires every so often, depending on how much you travel. Eventually your car will need a brand new set of tires because the tire tread will continue to wear down from use. Replacing tires means that you can continue on your way safely and have many more miles to go! What about regular checking on how certain things are doing like the battery, the air conditioning, etc? Your car also will frequently require a new battery every so often or one day you’ll go to start your car and it won’t start and you can’t go anywhere in your car until you put in a good battery so it can start and run. Same with the air conditioning system, it needs maintenance in order to continue providing the nice cool air that you like. Your body and mind are very similar in this way to the required maintenance of a car. If you don’t provide the necessary elements of care to your body and mind, then over time or eventually you’re going to see problems, illness, issues and struggles because the proper care wasn’t taken to ensure that it can continue. Your body and mind will wear down, but if you take care to provide everything it needs along the way, you’ll see that you’re able to function with none or very few issues. You get a haircut, take a shower and brush your teeth. That’s maintenance for your body, but what about your mind? Let’s talk about how Life Coaching can take care of your mind. As we now know, maintenance is required. Without addressing and treating your mind, you can suffer from stress, anxiety, the inability to see or make beneficial decisions for yourself, relationship problems, communication issues and more. Not treating these could be extremely detrimental to your mental well being and can snowball into much larger problems if ignored. Without intervention, your mind becomes a trash dump for everything and just getting clogged up becoming a run down old waste land that smells, looks horrible and people want to avoid. Your mind needs to be sifted through and the old items that are no longer working for you need to be thrown out. New strategies need to be put in place with a clear understanding of how they are to be used and what the expected outcome is to be. Behaviors that are no longer beneficial to you or providing either happiness or usefulness in your life also need to be thrown out and replaced with behaviors that are conducive to a healthy lifestyle and way of thinking. Behaviors such as a consistent tendency to think in negative patterns that lead to negative and destructive thought processes can create behavioral issues such as anger, addictions, abnormal communication or aggressive behaviors. Even poor eating habits can be a result. Some people will encounter depression, anxiety and stress which can lead to avoidance of certain relationships or environments. Anxiety can prevent a person from being able to deal effectively in some situations which can lead them to a darker place where they aren’t seeing a positive effect from their behaviors. A Life & Health Coach is a maintenance tool that you can use to sort through these areas that are slowing you down and causing problems. You can work on the areas where care is needed to restore your mind back to it’s state where it’s able to function properly and do the things it needs to do to get you through your life. Work, relationships, health, communication…these are all things that your mind must navigate through and be able to handle efficiently without getting a flat tire or a gunked-up system where it stops operating for you and instead causes so many problems that you can’t really see what you need to fix in order to get better. A Life & Health Coach can help you identify these areas and provide a clear strategy to get rid of the things that are no longer working and to restore them back into a working order. Sometimes the old way you were doing things is no longer an option and you’ll need to come up with new ways. Everyone in life needs this. Everyone needs maintenance along the way. Ignoring it will only make it worse later because it will accumulate and be harder to fix later. Things can be fixed later, but usually with much more time and dedication. If you’re using a Life Coach for periodic maintenance, things are much easier to keep up and less time is spent trying to fix something that has shut down. You can also think of this like the anti-virus protection on your computer. You know it’s needed and you really shouldn’t be using your computer without it because eventually you’ll get a virus and then your entire computer can be useless. But had you only added the prevention method of using the anti-virus program, you’d be able to continue using your computer every day knowing that you won’t shut down unexpectedly. Don’t put if off any longer. You’ll get a flat one day when it’s absolutely the worst timing and then you’ll still need to come up with the funds to buy the new tires. I have seen Life Coaches who charge over $300 for a one hour session and over $4,000 for a month of sessions. I make my rates affordable for everyone because I want your Life & Health coaching sessions to become part of your maintenance in life. I have made it extremely easy for my new clients to not only get in touch with me to schedule, plus have very affordable rates too. If you’re still on the fence about having a session with a Life Coach, it’s only a 30 minute phone call. You start with a very simple and short 30 minute phone call. During the phone call you can tell me what you would like help with and we’ll go from there. Some people need intensive 3-times-a-week sessions, but most people do very well with a once a week phone call plan for an hour each or even 30 minutes. Your own individual circumstances will determine what’s needed, but whatever is needed it’s best to go ahead and take care of now….like maintenance. Don’t fix the battery now and what happens later?
