Did you make a New Year's Resolution to lose weight?
Have you newly signed up at a gym to workout? Have you recently bought new Diet books? If you are one of the many who decided at the start of the new year to lose weight, you are not alone. Statistics show that over 45% of people make a New Year's Resolution to lose weight. They get motivated, decide to join a gym, buy dieting books and really want to lose the weight this time. Statistics also show that only 12% of people are able to stick with their goal and make progress with their weight loss. Below are the most common reasons for falling off the wagon after making weight loss your goal. 1. Motivation wears off. Simply put, you found motivation and changed your mindset to want to be healthy and fit and finally lose the weight; but keeping yourself motivated is difficult to maintain. 2. Weight loss is hard. Beginning to lose weight means changing habits, changing diet and teaching yourself to live a different lifestyle each day. As time goes on, many fall back into their old comfortable habits. 3. Getting stuck. With weight loss comes many struggles such as losing weight very fast in the beginning and then seeing a slowing down process, or "getting stuck." You continue to stay on track with your diet and are still working out, but for weeks you still don't seem to make the scale move. As a Life & Health Coach, many of my clients are on a weight loss program and benefit from coaching sessions. Weight loss is the number one area of health coaching that I help my clients with. Do you know that your body and mind need scheduled maintenance? I’ll bet you didn’t think of it that way. If we can think of your entire being as being similar to a car that you drive, you’ll see that there are many common elements to keeping the car in great condition. Cars need maintenance while you use them and so does your body and mind, just like a car. Your car needs many things. It needs a regular oil change and to clean the oil and air filters so as not to get clogged up so that it will barely run. If you don’t do these regular maintenance tasks on your car, before you know it your car could have damage that will wind up costing you more expensive repairs in order to get it back in good running shape. Your car also needs tires every so often, depending on how much you travel. Eventually your car will need a brand new set of tires because the tire tread will continue to wear down from use. Replacing tires means that you can continue on your way safely and have many more miles to go! What about regular checking on how certain things are doing like the battery, the air conditioning, etc? Your car also will frequently require a new battery every so often or one day you’ll go to start your car and it won’t start and you can’t go anywhere in your car until you put in a good battery so it can start and run. Same with the air conditioning system, it needs maintenance in order to continue providing the nice cool air that you like. Your body and mind are very similar in this way to the required maintenance of a car. If you don’t provide the necessary elements of care to your body and mind, then over time or eventually you’re going to see problems, illness, issues and struggles because the proper care wasn’t taken to ensure that it can continue. Your body and mind will wear down, but if you take care to provide everything it needs along the way, you’ll see that you’re able to function with none or very few issues. You get a haircut, take a shower and brush your teeth. That’s maintenance for your body, but what about your mind? Let’s talk about how Life Coaching can take care of your mind. As we now know, maintenance is required. Without addressing and treating your mind, you can suffer from stress, anxiety, the inability to see or make beneficial decisions for yourself, relationship problems, communication issues and more. Not treating these could be extremely detrimental to your mental well being and can snowball into much larger problems if ignored. Without intervention, your mind becomes a trash dump for everything and just getting clogged up becoming a run down old waste land that smells, looks horrible and people want to avoid. Your mind needs to be sifted through and the old items that are no longer working for you need to be thrown out. New strategies need to be put in place with a clear understanding of how they are to be used and what the expected outcome is to be. Behaviors that are no longer beneficial to you or providing either happiness or usefulness in your life also need to be thrown out and replaced with behaviors that are conducive to a healthy lifestyle and way of thinking. Behaviors such as a consistent tendency to think in negative patterns that lead to negative and destructive thought processes can create behavioral issues such as anger, addictions, abnormal communication or aggressive behaviors. Even poor eating habits can be a result. Some people will encounter depression, anxiety and stress which can lead to avoidance of certain relationships or environments. Anxiety can prevent a person from being able to deal effectively in some situations which can lead them to a darker place where they aren’t seeing a positive effect from their behaviors. A Life & Health Coach is a maintenance tool that you can use to sort through these areas that are slowing you down and causing problems. You can work on the areas where care is needed to restore your mind back to it’s state where it’s able to function properly and do the things it needs to do to get you through your life. Work, relationships, health, communication…these are all things that your mind must navigate through and be able to handle efficiently without getting a flat tire or a gunked-up system where it stops operating for you and instead causes so many problems that you can’t really see what you need to fix in order to get better. A Life & Health Coach can help you identify these areas and provide a clear strategy to get rid of the things that are no longer working and to restore them back into a working order. Sometimes the old way you were doing things is no longer an option and you’ll need to come up with new ways. Everyone in life needs this. Everyone needs maintenance along the way. Ignoring it will only make it worse later because it will accumulate and be harder to fix later. Things can be fixed later, but usually with much more time and dedication. If you’re using a Life Coach for periodic maintenance, things are much easier to keep up and less time is spent trying to fix something that has shut down. You can also think of this like the anti-virus protection on your computer. You know it’s needed and you really shouldn’t be using your computer without it because eventually you’ll get a virus and then your entire computer can be useless. But had you only added the prevention method of using the anti-virus program, you’d be able to continue using your computer every day knowing that you won’t shut down unexpectedly. Don’t put if off any longer. You're welcome :) I've seen a lot of searches on the internet resulting in the site owners commenting about what a life coach does. One of the most disturbing was a comment that said “A life coach does one simple thing, they help you remove the obstacles and find a clear path to your life goals.”
This is most certainly not a correct answer and I’m concerned that this is the information that is going out to the public. I am assuming that the person who wrote this comment has never hired a life coach before, otherwise they would have more information and correct facts. This is an opinion-based and fact-researched article. Luckily for me this is my own blog site so I'm able to post my opinion-based articles; however as a Professional, I always write based on facts and researched data. I also see many advertisements for sites promoting how to become a life coach and stating that it can be easily done within a few short months, with an earned certificate. Let me tell you; this is not the case and I would never hire a life coach if I knew that their life coaching history consisted of a few months of book learning and a piece of paper showing they completed it. Very scary. Is anyone out there going to feel confident hiring a 25-year-old life coach? I don’t understand how this profession has reached an out of bounds definition. A Life Coach is someone who has earned his or her profession title by going through the experience in life first hand. It would require someone at least over the age of 40 who has experienced first hand most of life’s major events which would include all of the following: Education being that they’ve completed high school and college, moved out and lived on their own, moved to a different state, have changed careers at least once, been married and possibly divorced, has had children, has been through an unemployment gap, and has experienced grief (loss of loved one). And there are so many more areas of expertise that a life coach should have. How else would the life coach be able to coach you on these topics, mentor and guide you if they had not had the experience? Is this something you learn in a webinar? What is this new life coach to do when they come across a 57-year-old client going through a job loss or widowed? As a 25-year-old certified via webinar, are they qualified to handle this client? I also see “health coaches” now who’s only experience seems to be that they’ve dieted and succeeded. Just a diet? That’s not what a Health Coach experience consists of either. What about eating disorders, diets that are mandatory for medication and health issues, diets for vegans and allergies, etc? A diet for weight loss alone doesn’t qualify anyone to become a health coach. I also see very young people calling themselves a Relationship Coach, though it appears that they are single and have never been married and have never had children. If I’m a 55-year-old woman going through a divorce with grown children, how is a 25-year-old person who is still single going to have the knowledge to help me? This person is a so-called relationship coach who helps with online dating? That’s approximately only 9% of clients when it comes to the category of relationship coaching. I am writing this today to provide this very important information to absolutely everyone. Why everyone? Because everyone is a human being who will experience life’s issues. Know that 2-3 months of webinar learning doesn’t qualify a person to earn the title of Life Coach. Being on a diet doesn’t qualify a person to be a Health Coach. Being on an online dating site doesn’t qualify a person to be a Relationship Coach. Most importantly, a Life Coach doesn’t do only “one thing.” Many of the advertisements for life coaches say “Are you stuck?” or “Do you need Clarity?” So misleading and so wrong. I fear that this is what they have been told to advertise to get clients. As a Life Coach, I have never even once advertised or asked one of my clients “Are you stuck?” In the advertising to learn how to be a life coach via webinar I’ve noticed that they also advise the new life coach to “pick a niche” and that “don’t say you’re a broad category life coach.” That’s really incorrect too and goes in the exact opposite direction of why you would be qualified as a Life Coach. But then again, I can see that in order for them to “sell” the webinar and certificate earned, they would want to make it seem easy. So let me guess, if I’m a person wanting to hire a life coach and yet I have areas of concern of career, health and parenting; am I supposed to hire three different life coaches because I can only find a life coach with one “niche” area who can help me? I can’t find one highly skilled, experienced and qualified whole life coach to help me with all areas of my life? Makes most sense to me, but hey what do I know….I’m just a highly skilled, experienced and qualified whole life coach who is 55 years of age and has experienced every one of the major life events I mentioned earlier, more than once. So there it is folks. I’m a Professional Whole Life & Health Coach because I’ve earned my life experiences, not just seen a webinar and coached two or three “training clients.” I’ve had over 30 years of life experiences in all categories, not just one “niche.” I advertise my title as a Life Coach because that is the qualification I have earned and can provide to my clients. My experience isn’t narrowed down to one small particular area. And I don’t have the “webinar life coach certificate” either, because I have more first hand knowledge than can ever be contained within the two or three webinars that anyone could provide a certificate for. To sum all of this up for you, please use your best judgment if you think about needing a life coach and know that most information provided on the internet is incorrect and extremely misleading. When you accept the circumstances of your life and when you accept that there is a reason for them, you end much of the output of mental resistance. This is what allows you to begin to finally have the power to change the circumstance. There is a reason for everything. Once you start to explore the reason or the meaning for the things that are happening in your life you begin to see more and more of the purpose for it right here and right now. It is within the understanding of the "whys" of life that you begin to embrace more of your creative power. Resistance is futile. When you resist what is happening you actually give it life. A force that has no counterforce cannot remain a force. In other words, when you accept the circumstances of your life and when you accept that there is a reason for them, you end much of the output of mental resistance. This is what allows you to begin to finally have the power to change the circumstance. Therefore the very first step is: 1. Accept "what is" This does not mean you condone what has been happening or you want it for tomorrow, rather only that you are finally ready to acknowledge it fully and end any of the denial. With acceptance you can now ask the most vital question in regards to your life, "Who do I now choose to be?" The old way of looking at yourself will produce similar results. You must see new possibility for who you are through a greater appreciation for who you are! Your experience of life will not change until you change. You are worth so much more. Self-inquiry or self-awareness is the path to this new vision and truth about your real worth. 2. Define yourself anew A new definition of who you are brings new possibilities and a new vision of what you deserve and want for your life. Once you can see these new possibilities you can decide what you now want to experience. This is a clear concise vision of what you desire to create for yourself that is markedly different from what you have been experiencing. You must see and believe in a completely new you so that life can harmonize with this vision. 3. Set new clear intentions Write down what you want. Imagine it in your head without restriction. Focus on the experiences that will fulfill you in the greatest way. Once you have a vision of what you do want you must begin to create it. There is always a first step. Often this can feel like going to the gym that very first day you decide to finally work out. It should feel a bit uncomfortable because you are stretching yourself into new behavior and hence a new identity. Begin collecting all the information on how you are going to accomplish your intention and be open to the truth of what you will need to do everyday to create things differently. 4. Demonstrate a new will You must demonstrate the will to experience a new life through NEW ACTIONS. You must be willing to get in that uncomfortable space to create change and build the new conditions that lead you to a new life. You must be committed to a new experience of who you are. If the old habits or thoughts pull on your mind as you move forward, you must show the fortitude to move past this test in a different way with completely different choices. 5. Express patience and faith In many colleges and universities there is one class along the pursuit of a certain major that ends up being the "weeder class". This is the class that separates or tests those trying to skate by from those serious about the pursuit of their degree. Step 5 is that test for you. Life has an elegant way of determining who believes in them self and who doesn't. Life can only match you in what you believe to be true both in thought and action. You have to do this without a guarantee of the results! This is a huge key in the process. Remember your current circumstance did not manifest overnight. There are years of thoughts feelings and actions behind what has been in place in your life, so be patient as you work to turn it all around. However, just like the universe served you in some way based on previous fears, doubts and negative thoughts, it will now serve you from a new mindset of belief, faith love and appreciation. The key is to stay persistent in your will for the change while working to pass the tests of patience and faith. Life is so simple in one way and yet can seem so hard and terrifying in another. The question to ask yourself is, "What mindset serves me best?" Energy creates matter. Therefore your energy and the way you shape it when putting it out in your world is what is feeding the circumstances. This is so powerful and exciting to know because it offers you that life is directly responding to your energy in so many ways every single day. To become conscious of this and begin to change it is the path to true mastery.
